Pain and Pleasure.

Like Joy and Sorrow, Pain and Pleasure are very much like two sides of the same coin.

Sometimes your pain is inflicted by others, but often its self-inflicted.  Some pain is physical and some mental - but a verse from the Prophet says it all beautifully.

"Your pain is the breaking of the shell that encloses your understanding.

Much of your pain is self-chosen.  It is the bitter potion by which the physician within you heals your sick self.  Therefore trust the physician and drink his remedy in silence and tranquility. For his hand, though heavy and hard is guided by the tender hand of the unseen.

Also from the Prophet.

Pleasure is a freedom song - but it is not freedom.

It is the blossoming of your desires, but it is not your fruit.

It is the depth calling unto the height, but it is not the deep or the high.

It is the caged taking wing, but it is not space encompassed.

Ay in very truth, pleasure is a freedom song, and I fain would have you sing it with fullness of heart, yet I would not have you lose your hearts in the singing.

Failure and Success.

1. There is always another chance.  This thing we call failure is not the falling down, but the staying down.

2. Failure teaches us what we still need to know in order to succeed.

Fear and Courage.

None are free from fear, but all are free to conquer it with courage.

Good and Bad.

There is nothing good or bad that thinking makes it so.
